Conan vs Slomatics – Split 12″
CONAN
A three piece of such sluggish might that even the Old Ones themselves are wary. Their debut album ‘Horseback Battle Hammer’ originally sold out on Throne in a very short space of time, confirming the magnetic draw their dense yet beautiful sound has. Conan explore a new-found psychedelic prowess here, yet still retain their trademark tone of impossibly low-end power. These three crushing tracks were recorded by Chris Fielding at Foel Studio, against the backdrop of a bleak gale and a howling storm. Additional vocals were contributed by spacelord Dave Anderson (ex-Hawkind / Amon Duul II), stepping up the psych-factor one notch further.
SLOMATICS
This Belfast-based trio of grandiose riff-runts have been rocking since 2004. Along the way they have amassed two albums, three splits and a slavish cult following. These Hibernian doomhounds are quirky and unlike anyone else, although it has been alleged that they share some genetic material with early Melvins. Beautiful and enticing perhaps, but undoubtedly heavy as hell.
James Plotkin (Khanate, Isis, Earth) was the natural and most brutal choice for mastering duties on both sides of the split and is limited to 300 copies on gorgeous blue vinyl with beautiful artwork by Tony Roberts.
